Months of negotiations between the Atlanta Falcons, the city of Atlanta and Friendship Baptist Church ended with the Falcons moving their new stadium to a different location, but things don't always move at a normal pace in the A.
The historic church, that was a part of the Underground Railroad and is one of the oldest black churches in the country, voted to accept a $19.5 million offer from the city and it's partners to find a new location and give the Falcons their preferred location.
The spot means the new Dome will be in a perfect spot for Atlanta's transpiration expansion, meaning better access to other parts of Atlanta. The other location would be further away from the new streetcars and take away value from the overall project. However, the decision from Friendship Baptist means everything fell into place from original design.
The decision to move, however, was not easy.
"Everybody's sad about (the decision)," said one member of the church. Another summed it up well, saying, "…sometimes business and religion don't quite meet."
Still, $19.5 million is a lot of money and the church plans to expand it's ministry and focus on developing a bigger community.
