Tiger had fun with the competition at the Bridgestone Invitational last weekend, which left a lot of people thinking that he could win his first major since 2008 this weekend at the PGA Championship. Well, his major trophy drought won’t be ending anytime soon if he keeps finishing rounds the way he did today. Tiger went +3 on his final nine holes to finish one over par and six shots behind the leader, Jim Furyk.
“The round — realistically — could have been under par easily,” Woods said in a press conference.
Woods began his round on the back nine, where a pair of birdies put him at -2 before moving to the front nine, but that’s where it went wrong. Tiger bogeyed on hole 4, then after four pars, he started his last of hole of the day like this.
Woods would double bogey on that hole, and now he’s tied for 80th on the leaderboard. Maybe he shouldn’t have packed his driver like his boy Phil Mickelson, though that doesn’t seem to be working too well so far. Lefty is also at +1, but is only through three holes of his round.
Tiger will have to get on his Bridgestone flow if he wants to get back in the race, starting tomorrow when he tees off for round 2 at 1:45 p.m.
