According to the Associated Press, Nevarez will replace Lynn Holzman and become the fourth full-time commissioner in conference history. Holzman left in January to become NCAA vice president for womens basketball.

Nevarez becomes one of 10 female conference commissioners in Division I and the second woman of color to be named a Div. I conference commissioner, following in the footsteps of current Big Sky Commissioner Andrea Williams, who was appointed in 2016.
