Top Alabama Football Recruit Commits Suicide

On Monday morning, Julian Jones, one of the top recruits in the state of Alabama passed away.  The 16-year-old Jones' cause of death was determined to be suicide according to what Madison County coroner Craig Whisenant told AL.com.

The Hazel Green High School junior was a 6-foot-5, 230 pound defensive end/tight end rated one of top 16 recruits in the state and had the benefit of being a coach’s son. His father was previously the head coach at SWAC powerhouse Alabama A&M, but Jones appeared destined to play in the SEC having received offers on the table from Mississippi State and South Carolina. Like his father, Anthony Jones, a retired NFL tight end, Jones also excelled at the position although defensive end appeared to be the position he was being recruited to play.

Hazel Green head coach Matt Putnam did not comment about Jones’ passing pblicly, but did express his condolences on behalf of himself and the program on Twitter.
