Toni Braxton and Babyface Drop New Album

Frequent collaborators Toni Braxton and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds have once again teamed up to create an album of duets called Love, Marriage & Divorce.

The dynamic duo can be credited for defining R&B in the 90s. Since then, Babyface’s last original music album as a singer was released 9 years ago. While Braxton’s most recent project was in 2010.

The new album focuses mainly on divorce and how marriages and relationships fall apart. And both singers have plenty of dysfunctional personal experience. Babyface's divorce was finalized in 2005 after marrying movie producer Tracey Edmonds in 1992. Braxton divorced Mint Condition singer Keri Lewis last year after wedding in 2001.

Some of the songs reflect a more mature reflection after breaking up by wishing nothing but the best for their ex. However, not all of the songs on the album play nice, like in “I Wish” where Braxton sings:

“I hope she gives you a disease, so that you will see. Not enough to make you die, but only make you cry – like you did to me.”

2013 seems to have been a difficult year for Braxton, as she not only got divorced but also announced on her reality TV show Braxton Family Values that she was planning on retiring from the music industry. Obviously, that decision to retire was rescinded as her old studio pal, Babyface, convinced her to turn anger and bitterness into music.

Love, Marriage & Divorce drops today Tuesday, Feb 4, on iTunes.
