Team With “Joke” Jerseys Illustrate How Kids Are Reared Into Racism

Heres yet another example of dumb-ass adults rearing up their children to be a dumb-ass, too. For those whore so shocked that racism still exists in this advanced day and age, this latest story out of Ohio his for you.  Some adults not only thought it was a good idea give a basketball team full of high school and middle school children a sexually suggestive nickname, but also thought it would be cool to hit them off with racist nicknames on the back of their jerseys as well.

As was reported by Stephen Crockett over at The Root, the team’s name, the Wet Dream Team, was one thing. However, players had nicknames like Knee Grow and Coon that were written on the backs of some of the jerseys.  Now, from my own recreation league experiences, its often the teams with the wackest players that resort to gimmicks or shenanigans that have nothing to do with basketball to serve as a soothing salve to cool the burn of losing game after game.  If you cant beat em, might as well make em laugh. However, aint a single thing funny about this.

I couldnt have made this up and had anyone believe me; I couldnt have, Tony Rue told News 5 Cleveland. Youre talking eight, nine layers of people and adults seeing these jerseys and thinking its just a joke.

Joe Mallory, vice president of the Cincinnati NAACP, told the local ABC affiliate of his plans to investigate the matter and speak with the league organizers, as if thats going to do anything.  Anywho, heres what the leagues coordinator had to say about that matter.

Kings rec basketball for grades 7-12 does not in any way support or condone the uniform infractions that occurred, Kings division coordinator Charrise Middleton said, noting that the team was removed as soon as she learned about the offensive uniforms. We strictly follow and support the rules set out by [Cincinnati Premier Youth Basketball League] and fully support their decision to remove the team from play as well.

The Wet Dream Teams coach did issue an apology, and it was exactly the same as many of its type in the past; disingenuous, tone deaf and completely missing the point.  Well keep you posted as this story develops.
