The cover song will be as contribution to the Spotify Singles series, which has previously hosted other pop stars covering classics from previous generationsMiley Cyrus covered Tom Pettys Wildflowers, Demi Lovato performed a version of Aretha Franklins Aint No Way, Arcade Fire gave their own rendition of John Lennons Mind Games, and so on.

Why Swift chose September is mind-boggling as she has no connection to the 70s R&B/soul/disco/funk crossover sound at all. Born and raised in Reading, Pennsylvania, Swift moved to Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 14 to pursue a career in country music before melding with pop to become an international superstar. Swift replaces the big vibrant sound with a slowed down banjo laced country feel that totally disrespect’s the songs intention.
Songwriters Maurice White, Al McKay, and Allee Willis wanted it uptempo and danceable while still contemplative and romantic, The vocal range is off the charts falsetto high and whether Swift has the range to pull it off is your decision. Still, the fact is some classics should never be touched and this is a clear example why.
