Showtime Announces Seven Championship Fights In Eight-Week Span

Whoever says boxing is dead hasnt been paying attention. Today, Showtime Sports released the networks complete spring 2017 boxing schedule. To say that it is phenomenal is an understatement. The stacked lineup includes seven world championship fights across eight live boxing telecasts over an eight-week span.

On Saturday, April 29, Anthony Joshua will face Wladimir Klitschko. The event will be jointly televised by Showtime and HBO at staggered times (4:15pm on Showtime and 10:45pm on HBO) and continues a cooperative trend that began with Lennox Lewis vs. Mike Tyson and expanded with Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao.

WBC Light Heavyweight Champion Adonis Stevenson and Andrzej Fonfara will face off on Saturday, June 3 on a Premier Boxing Champions card. The bout is an encore of a 2014 action-packed fight in which Stevenson edged Fonfara to defend his 175-pound crown.

There are also two significant welterweight bouts with world title implications.

This weekends Andre Berto vs. Shawn Porter pairing on April 22nd, and Kell Brook vs. Errol Spence Jr. on May 27th. Both events are presented in association with Premier Boxing Champions.

Berto vs. Porter also features an anticipated 154-pound world title fight between Jermell Charlo and Charles Hatley. World champion Amanda Serrano rounds out the card, attempting to become the first woman and first fighter of Puerto Rican descent to win a world title in five different weight classes.

Baltimores newly minted world champion, Gervonta Davis, will make his first world title defense against Liam Walsh from London on May 20th. On the same day, featherweight world champion Gary Russell Jr. and former world champion Andre Dirrell will be featured in separate bouts at the MGM Grand National Harbor.

The network also announced that it is in the early stages of planning for the return of four-division world champion Adrien The Problem Broner and undefeated star Mikey Garcia in separate events this summer.
