Serena Williams Advances To Her 9th Wimbledon Final

It took Serena Williams about 45 minutes to dispatch of Elena Vesnina 6-2, 6-0 this morning, putting her one victory away from another Wimbledon title and a record-equaling 22nd Grand Slam title.

Williams’ serve hit 123 miles per hour as she smoked Vesina for 11 aces.

The defending Wimbledon champion, Williams is looking to get past her recent defeats to Roberta Vinci in the U.S. Open semifinals last September, Angelique Kerber in the Australian Open final in January, and Garbine Muguruza in the French Open final last month.

In the second singles semifinal today, Venus Williams is facing Kerber, the outstanding German.

This is the 11th Grand Slam tournament at which both Williams siblings reached the semifinals.

Venus, at 36, is the oldest Grand Slam semifinalist since Martina Navratilova made the 1994 Wimbledon final at age 37.
