It’s official! The 2028 Olympics & Paralympics are coming to L.A. Can’t wait to welcome the world back to our City of Angels! #FollowTheSun

Everyone connected with LA 2028 is thrilled to be part of this win-win-win scenario for the Olympic movement, bid leader Casey Wasserman said in a statement. Together, L.A., Paris and the IOC will demonstrate the Games enduring value to host communities.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti signed a host city contract, promising that the city government pay off any debts that might be incurred should the estimated $5.3-billion games run over budget, which is par for the course of recent Olympic Games.

“This is the moment Angelenos have been waiting for,” said Garcetti.

While Garcetti and the group that fought to bring the games to L.A. are celebrating, many others are less than enthusiastic given the financial fiasco and embarrassing scandals that took place at the 2016 Rio Games.
