Les Miles Gets The Boot

LSU was ranked No. 6 in the college football preseason poll and Les Miles’ Tigers were expected to give No. 1 Alabama a run for their money in the powerful SEC West. But as Biggie once said, “Things done changed.”.

Junior running back Leonard Fournette was thought to be among the favorites to win this year’s Heisman after his spectacular sophomore season. But a preseason ankle injury has made him look pedestrian thus far.

Quarterback Brandon Harris performed like Detective Alonzo Harris at the end of Training Day in the season opening 16-14 loss to Wisconsin in the opener. After defeating Jacksonville State and Mississippi State in unconvincing fashion, the LSU offense once again looked putrid in yesterday’s 18-13 loss to Auburn, scoring only one touchdown.

With all of the pressure already on Miles from last year’s 9-3 finish, in which they got smacked three games in a row by Alabama, Arkansas and Ole Miss, he started the season on the proverbial hot seat.

So coming out the gate at 2-2, while many in Baton Rouge had ambitions of reaching the playoff semifinals, Les Miles was fired four games into his 12th season at the helm of the LSU football program.

Offensive coordinator Cam Cameron has also been fired. Ed Oregeron will be the interim coach for the remainder of the season.

Decisions like this are never easy ones to make, athletic director Joe Alleva said in a statement. Coach Miles has done a tremendous job here and hes been a great ambassador for our University, which makes this even more difficult.

However, its apparent in evaluating the program through the first month of the season that a change has to be made. Our commitment to excellence and competing at the highest level is unwavering, and our goals for the remainder of this season havent changed. We have an obligation to our student-athletes to put them in the best position to have success on the football field each week and we have great confidence that coach Orgeron will do just that.

A press conference will be held on Monday afternoon at the school.

Miles compiled an overall record of 114-34 and won the national championship in 2007. But things have gone downhill since 2013, with LSU having a 15-11 record against conference opponents.
