It is with deep and profound sadness we report the passing of Alcornite and 1994 NFL 1st Round Draftee, John Thierry ’94. The Alcorn family extends its sincere condolences to his family. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. #ForeverBrave

Thierry played with the Bears for five years and was at a gathering with former team members two months ago.

Thats the last time I saw him, and he looked good, damn good for his age, said former teammate James Big Cat Williams. We hung out that weekend. This is a shock. I feel bad for everybody.

Thierry was a dominant force for the Alcorn State Braves. In his senior year he had nine sacks and was named first team all SWAC. His size, 6-4 and 248 lbs, and speed (4.58 in the 40) caught the eyes of the Bears, who drafted him in the first round. After five seasons, he went on to play for the Browns, Packers and the Falcons.

RIP John.
