Per usual, it started as a routine traffic stop. Then they got him for the sauce.

Atlanta Hawks Head Coach Mike Budenholzer was arrested Wednesday night for driving under the influence in the Midtown area of Atlanta. According to jail records obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Budenholzer was stopped on 10th Street at Crescent Avenue without his tail lights on. During the traffic stop, the officer noticed the first-year head coach had blood shot eyes, and smelled alcohol coming from the vehicle.

Everyone knows what happens after that. Budenholzer declined to offer a breath test, but the standard field sobriety test was even too much for him to handle, according to the cop. Budenholzer was booked into the Atlanta City Jail and released on bond at around 3:45 a.m.

This isn't exactly the kind of start to a head coaching career that one would want. Budenholzer spent the past 17 seasons as one of Gregg Popovich's key assistants in San Antonio, before getting this opportunity at establishing himself as head coach.

The Hawks hired him on May 28th, and for all intents and purposes are rebuilding this team.
