So after 97 wins and two consecutive NL East titles, the Nationals’ Dusty Baker will not be returning to the team as head coach next season.

Here’s the statement from the Nationals on Dusty Baker and his coaching staff…

So despite leading the team to their first back to back division titles, the weight of not advancing past the division series ultimately sealed his fate, which is ironic as so many losing teams would love to have the same problems as Dusty and Nationals had in his two seasons with the team, one which came with a .593 winning percentage.

Baker, 68, now has a career record of 1,863 – 1,636 over 22 seasons in the big leagues. He sits in 14th place in all-time wins, coached four different teams to the playoffs and was named NL Manager of the Year three times.
