Tuesday, Dave Chappelle appeared on Late Night with David Letterman for the first time in 10 years and was asked a question that many have often wondered regarding his departure from his Comedy Central hit Chappelle's Show vehicle. Why did he quit?
“Listen, here it is,” said Dave. “Technically, I never quit. I’m seven years late for work.”
Chappelle has been extremely quiet since the end of his show. He did do an interview with Oprah not long after returning from a trip to South Africa. There was still some chance he would return to the show at the time, but then Comedy Central aired the cursed “lost season” and removed any chance of the show returning with Chappelle.
We get it. Dave was burned out and it wouldn’t have been a good look if he had a nervous breakdown live on set. Life forces us to do what we have to do to make it through life. Even if that means giving up the things that we've fought so hard to get.
