Cris Cyborg’s previous opponent for UFC 214, Megan Anderson, withdrew from the fight due to personal reasons. However, news that Cyborg (17-1) will still be fighting for the UFC womens featherweight championship on July 29 at UFC 214 in Anaheim against new opponent Tonya Evinger was well-received.
Evinger (19-5 MMA) is the current lnvicta bantamweight champion. Invicta is the all women’s MMA organization that is a feeder system for the UFC that has birthed top tier talent and is a part of the UFC Fight Pass network. Evinger was most recently seen in action this past March, where she scored a second-round submission victory over Yana Kunitskaya. She has recorded 15 finishes in her 19 career victories.
Cyborg has only turned up her training amid the opponent changes. Recently video leaked of her viciously sparring with two-time Olympic gold medalist, Claressa “T-Rex” Shields.

The best women’s amateur boxer in history, Shields is the real deal and a perfect sparring partner for the brawler in Cyborg.
Ironically, both athletes are preparing for title bouts as Shields was just announced that she’ll be fighting for her first world title against WBC Super Middleweight World Champion Nikki Adler in the main event of ShoBox: The New Generation Friday, Aug. 4.
With Mayweather vs. McGregor on the horizon, it is good to see that top level boxers and MMA fighters are collaborating more on a high level.
