Seth Jones Defies Stereotypes To Become Highest African-American Drafted In NHL History

Eighteen-year-old defenseman Seth Jones has never had a typical childhood compared to most NHL prospects. His story was profiled at the age of 14 by Sports Illustrated and on Sunday his NHL journey began. After slipping three spots below his projected slot as the No. 1 overall pick in Sunday's NHL Draft, Jones was selected fourth overall by the Nashville Predators.

In case you're unfamiliar with Jay-Z's potential new client, Jones is an intriguing prospect unlike most you'll see in the NHL. He's from Texas. Oh yeah, and he's the highest drafted African-American player in NHL history. In addition to his rare black puck on white ice status, Jones also hails from an unusual background as the son of former NBA veteran Popeye Jones.
