Serena Williams Advances To Wimbledon Semifinal After Losing First Set

Serena Williams is advancing to the Wimbledon semifinal after defeating Italian Camila Giorgi.

Williams faced a worthy challenge from Giorgi, who took the first set (6-3). But as she does so often, Serena came back and won the next two, (6-3, 6-4). She now has a 39-35 record when losing the first set at a major.

The G.O.A.T. wasn’t her dominate self, “only” winning seven aces in the match, but she still advanced. Williams will be facing German Julia Goerges in the next round.

Serena, 36, is gunning for her eighth Wimbledon crown and 24th overall Grand Slam title. She won the Wimbledon title in 2016, but didn’t play last year because of her pregnancy. After giving birth, she returned to play her first Grand Slam event at the French Open last month, reaching the fourth round.
