Russell Wilson finally gets paid

Unlike the discussion of whether they should have ran the ball instead of passing, the passive aggressive contract negotiations between Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks have come to an end. The franchise inked a four-year, $87.6 million contract extension, $60 million of that guaranteed, with the young QB today that will include a mega $31 million signing bonus.

Russ has been adamant that he wants to be paid like an elite quarterback for his consistent play and back to back Super Bowl appearances; now he can sit back and enjoy one of the richest contracts in NFL history in terms of per-year average.

“For me, I just want to be paid based on what I’m worth, what I’ve produced, whatever that means. For me, I just let the play speak for itselfThat’s not my job to kind of do all that. That’s why I hire (agent) Mark Rodgers, and that’s why I trust him to figure everything out for me, work everything out, and sure enough it did, and I get to play here for another four more years. Couldn’t be much better,” Says Wilson.

Theres been a back and forth about if Wilson is worthy of a huge contract or if he is just a product of a great defense, but his numbers dont lie. Wilson has led Seattle to the playoffs all three of his seasons as well as leading the Seahawks to the cusp of a second straight title. He got Seattle to the New England 1-yard line in the final seconds of the Super Bowl, only to be intercepted by Malcolm Butler, clinching the Patriots’ 28-24 SB win.

Wilson also holds the NFL record for most wins in his first three seasons and was the third-youngest quarterback in NFL history to win a Super Bowl title. Last year, he threw for 3,475 yards and 20 touchdowns with only seven interceptions in the regular season. He tacked on an additional 849 rushing yards and six TDs and put on a clinic during the playoffs.

With the addition of Jimmy Graham and the return of Marshawn Lynch, Wilson will have the weapons he needs to add on to those totals and prove his worth.
