Russell Westbrook Is One Triple-Double Shy Of Record

Russell Westbrooks assault on the record books has reached a fever pitch as the triple-double destroyer got his 40th triple-double of the season in a 113-101 loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday night.

With his 40 points, 10 dimes and 13 rebounds, Westbrook not only passes the 15,000 career point milestone, but he moves within one triple double of tying Oscar Robertsons record for triple doubles in a season with 41. He’ll probably tie the record on Monday night against the Milwaukee Bucks. The Big O already endorsed Russ for MVP so Westbrook shouldn’t feel guilty about eventually eclipsing what most basketball purists thought was an unattainable record.

Westbrooks stat-stuffing brilliance has captivated basketball sensibilities across the globe and Westbrook is THE attraction in OKC, a franchise that once figured him a second fiddle in a Westbrook, Kevin Durant, James Harden triumverate.

Westbrook is the first player in history to have multiple streaks of six or more straight in a season. Ice Cube would be proud. He needs 11 rebounds and 29 assists over his final six games to become the second player to average a triple double for the season.

Its truly the age of the triple-double in the NBA and nobody does it better than Russ.
