Roy Tarpley Dies At Age 50

Roy Tarpley, the former Dallas Mavericks center, died last night at the age of 50.

Tarpley, who won the Sixth Man of the Year award while playing for the Mavericks in 1988, was a talented yet deeply troubled man that battled addiction through out his life. He was suspended multiple times during his career stemming from charges of DUI and DWI, and banned from the league in 1995 for violating the terms of his approved aftercare program.

Tarpley averaged 12.6 points and 10 rebounds a game during his career, boosting those numbers to 13.5 points and 10.5 rebounds during the 87-88 season in which he won the Sixth Man of the Year award.
