Ray Allen Opts To Join Miami’s Quest For A Repeat

Ray Allen is a hero in Miami after draining the most pivotal shot in franchise history. It was doubtful he'd ever leave, but on Saturday he made it official by excercising his option for next season, which would earn him $3.2 million. Allen could have earned twice as much after his resurgent season with Miami. Last summer, Allen chose to pursue a championship in Miami for two years and $6.2 million rather than accept the Celtics' two-year $12 million offer.

Allen's been an integral apart of a championship winner before, but the Heat pose his best chance to become a repeat champion. Allen's decision to re-sign may also have an adverse effect on Mike Miller's future in Miami. Florida may be retirement corridor, but the Heat have limited space for shooters nearing thier retirement ages. The Heat are expected to pay $30 million in luxury tax next season, but would save $14 million by using their amnesty provision on Miller.
