Rap Duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis Address Racial-Profiling During Acceptance Speech

While some hip-hop purists were scratching their heads and gritting their teeth at the fact that rap duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis picked up an American Music Award, the duo was once again bringing attention to the conditions of a demographic that they are not a part of. The duo accepted their award for Favorite Album in the Rap/Hip-Hop category live via satellite from Miami, Florida, a notorious Stand Your Ground State.

"Due to the fact that we are in Florida tonight accepting this award I want to acknowledge Trayvon Martin and the hundreds and hundreds of kids each year that are dying due to racial profiling and the violence that follows it," said Macklemore "This is really happening. These are our friends, our neighbors, our peers and our fans, and it’s time that we look out for the youth and fight against racism and the laws that protect it."

Well, we got a white rap group that is currently at the forefront of hip-hop activism with the release of their song "Same Love" featuring Ryan Lambert. And now they're bring attention to the death of Trayvon Martin live from Florida? Man, somewhere Lord Jamar is pissed right about now.  And Trayvon Martin is smiling.
