Paul George Announces He’s Staying With OKC Thunder At House Party

With everyone eagerly awaiting the news of big name free agents this weekend, what better way to reveal these player’s decisions than by going big. And that’s exactly what Paul George and Russell Westbrook did last night in Oklahoma City.

At a big “house party” thrown by Westbrook, and attended by both guests and fans, Paul George revealed that he would be staying with the team for another few years.

“If y’all don’t quite get it,” said George while accompanied by Westbrook, who was channeling his inner Spliff Star. “Let me say it again; I’m here to stay.”

That’s right OKC fans, you bested Magic and the Lakers as, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Paul George has re-upped with the Thunder with a four-year, $137 million max deal. That’s a huge deal for the team and a big blow to the Lakers as rumors were flying around that LA would sign Paul George, trade for Kawhi Leonard and then sign King James to create a super team in the City of Angels which would dethrone the mighty Warriors.

George, a five-time All Sta, averaged 21.9 ppg, 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists. Another reason for staying was that he achieved his highest career three point shooting percentage, 40.1%, while playing with former NBA MVP Westbrook.

So despite the enticement of the big stage and sunshine of LA, George decided to stay with the Thunder and continue to build something special with Westbrook and company instead of going the super team route.
