Oscar Pistorius set to be released from prison next week

South African sprint runner Oscar Pistorius, is set to be released early from prison next week after only serving one year of a five year sentence for good behavior.

Pistorius, 28, was convicted of culpable homicide a charge equivalent to manslaughter in America, after shooting and killing his then girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentines day in 2013.

Oscar Pistorius is set to be released on October 20th, and will be placed under house arrest and correctional supervision. He will not be eligible to return to competition until the whole five year sentence is served.

Steenkamps family and people around the world are understandably angry at the release of Pistorius, another high profile athlete, seemingly beating the system, but the case has not been completely settled yet. Prosecutors will appeal to the South African Supreme court on November 3rd to secure a murder conviction for Pistorius, which would carry a 15 year sentence.
