It’s not your fault if you haven’t noticed Isaiah Thomas ballin' this season. Demarcus Cousins casts quite an intimidating shadow over the Sacramento Kings, they don't play on national television and the 5-9 point guard is a backup on a franchise mired in the sewage that’s plummeted beneath the Western Conference playoff standings. However, he’s putting up 17 points a game on 44 percent shooting and not only is he eating up Jimmer Fredette’s shots and doing Jimmer better than Jimmer could, but the diminutive scorer is living up to his Hall of Fame namesake’s reputation.
One month into his third season he’s attacking the rim like a bull charges after a matador and leads the league in fourth quarter scoring. He may not have a great assist-turnover ratio, but he’s getting the job done.
With Cousins sidelined with a sprained ankle, Thomas shot 16 percent from the field on six attempts against the Oklahoma City Thunder. In the fourth, Thomas went into Tiny Archibald mode and flogged the Thunder defense for 21 points. His explosion wasn’t enough for the win, but against the league’s leading scorer, it was an eye-opening performance that puts the nation on notice that the 4-12 Kings have more of an entertainment value on a nightly basis besides Cousins doing his best angry Deebo from Friday impression.
