In a move that is almost three years overdue, the Cleveland Police Department fired Timothy Loehmann, who was a rookie at the time he shot to death 12-year-old Tamir Rice, who was playing in the park with friends when he was killed.
During the investigation following the shooting it was revealed the Loehmann was on a probationary period when the shooting occurred.
A second officer involved, Frank Garmback, has been suspended. Cleveland.com reports that although both men received disciplinary letters in January, Loehmann was actually fired for lying on his application and not for shooting Rice.
So, let’s add lying on an application as something that warrants more disciplinary action than shooting a child in a park and lying about it.
