Celebrating his 20 years in hip hop’s 40 year history, rap king Nas is releasing Time is Illmatic, a documentary set to premiere at the opening of this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. One of the premiere film festivals in the world, it opens April 16 in NYC.
Time is Illmatic tracks Nas’ evolution in hip hop to nine solo albums that grew from the release of his classic 1994 debut Illmatic. Written by music journalist and a former editor at The Source, Erik Parker, the Tribeca opening of Time is Illmatic will be followed by Nas hitting the stage to perform all of his tracks on Illmatic. This moment in history coincides with the 20th anniversary edition of Illmatic XX, set to be released on April 15.
