The 2004 Super Bowl halftime performance did not conclude so well for Superstar Janet Jackson, after singer Justin Timberlake ripped the fabric from her bustier, exposing her breast.
And 14 years later, we find out CBS chairman and CEO Les Moonves – Who’s in charge of the Super Bowl – was on a warpath to ruin Jackson’s career ever since.

Exclusive: Multiple sources tell me that after the 2004 Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction, Les Moonves was intent on destroying @JanetJackson’s career to the point where he was talking about it years later and sharing how he was exacting his revenge. https://t.co/h6eygMwGKM
Moonves is seen as the big bad wolf and multiple sources claim that he tends to remember who his enemies are, and exact revenge on them on his terms, and Janet happened to be one of them.
Although both stars made statements claiming that the “malfunction” wasn’t planned, Moonves seemed to be convinced otherwise, believing that it was intentional to stir up controversy.
The chairman was so embarrassed by the incident that he went on to ban both Jackson and Timberlake from the 2004 Grammys broadcasting that aired on CBS the week after the Super Bowl. Yet, Timberlake was allowed to perform after he apologized.
Moonves even went as far as ordering Viacom properties VH1 and MTV and all Viacom-owned radio stations to stop playing Jacksons songs and music videos, which consequently affected the sales of her album Damita Jo, which was released just a month after the Super Bowl. Meanwhile, Timberlake returned to the Super Bowl stage in 2018.

Though JT pulled her breast out, Jackson took all the blame and apparently, her apology did not match up to that of Timberlakes. Moonves did not appreciate that. Even in 2011, Moonves was still in his feelings and reportedly threw a fit after hearing that Janet signed a book deal with Simon & Schuster, who are owned by the CBS Corporation.
Moonves was quoted as saying, How the fuck did she slip through?
