JaMarcus Russell Is Avoiding The Ryan Leaf Trap

JaMarcus Russell was one of the great physical specimens in NFL Draft history. By his third season, Russell weighed over 300 pounds and looked more like Albert Haynesworth than a pocket quarterback. In his final season as Raiders quarterback, Russell was last in the league in just about every meaningful statistical category. After getting released by the Raiders in 2010, Russell bottomed out and was arrested for being in possession of codein syrup.

Russell was on track to follow in the path that Ryan Leaf blazed, from No. 2 overall pick to a disgraced drug addict. However, with the help of former 49er QB Jeff Garcia, Russell is dropping weight this offseason and has high hopes of getting an opportunity to resume his NFL career.

ESPN's Tom Rinaldi gives us the scoop on the rise, fall and resurrection of Russell.
