Investigation Into Fatal Car Crash Involving Venus Williams Continues

On June 9th in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a car accident resulted in the death of a 78 year old man by the name of Jerome Barson. The other party involved is the 10th ranked tennis player in the world, Venus Williams.

According to the police report, “Linda Barson told police she was traveling west in the right lane and approaching an intersection, slowing for a traffic light. The report states that light changed to green, and Barson said she drove through the intersection when Williams’ 2010 Toyota Sequoia cut across in front of her car.”

Barson was unable to avoid Williams’ vehicle, thus resulting in the fatal crash.

Williams, according to the report, was driving at a speed of 5 mph and “is at fault for violating the right of way of (the Barsons).” But there is no mention of Williams being cited after the accident.

Malcolm Cunningham, Venus’ attorney, issued the following in a statement to CNN: “Ms. Williams entered the intersection on a green light. The police report estimates that Ms. Williams was traveling at 5 mph when Mrs. Barson crashed into her. Authorities did not issue Ms. Williams with any citations or traffic violations. This is an unfortunate accident and Venus expresses her deepest condolences to the family who lost a loved one.”

More to come on this developing story.
