Some terrible news: hip-hop legend Lovebug Starski has died suddenly and unexpectedly in Las Vegas at age 60. Very sad. The man was a gifted entertainer, a warm, generous soul. He had been rocking Vegas venues and joined KRS-One on stage last week. Rest peacefully good sir.
The younger generation will most likely recognize the Hip-Hop pioneer as one of the names Biggie shouted out on “Juicy.” 60s and 70s babies know Lovebug Starski as one of the original pioneers of the culture. Born Kevin Smith, the Bronx boy was a a triple threat in the game, having the ability to be an MC, DJ and producer.
He began his career working parties before finally become the house DJ at Disco Fever in 1978. From there he went on to rock the party at Club Harlem World and the Renaissance. While he never made it to the big time that some of the artists of the 80s and 90s achieved, he will forever be recognized as one the best DJs in history to keep the party rocking. RIP Lovebug.
