Two Saturdays ago, black college football was full of upsets and intruige. While there weren't as many surprises this week, there were still several games that came down to the wire.
Over in the MEAC, four games were decided by less than a touchdown, including two by a field goal or less. None of those games were upsets, unless you count a 1-5 FAMU team picking up a win over 2-4 Howard during its homecoming weekend. Elsewhere in the MEAC Norfolk State defeated rival Hampton 20-13 at the annual Battle of the Bay matchup while Morgan State put a dent in North Carolina Central's MEAC record with a 21-20 homecoming win.
Wins by Norfolk and Morgan, as well as North Carolina A&T, gave these three teams indentical 3-1 conference records, tying them for second behind Bethune-Cookman, who defeated Savannah State 48-20.
Over in the SWAC, things went according to plan as division leaders Alcorn State (5-2, 4-1) and Grambling State (5-0, 5-3) won going away.
There weren't many surprises in D2 football as Winston-Salem State (6-1) and Tuskegee (5-2) remained ahead in their respective divisions of the CIAA and SIAC, as did CIAA Northern Division leader Virginia Union (6-1) and and SIAC East leader Albany State (4-2).
