In day two of news on the season four premiere of Game of Thrones, HBO has announced that it is renewing GOT for seasons five and six. “GAME OF THRONES is a phenomenon like no other,” read a statement by HBO. “David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with their talented collaborators, continue to surpass themselves, and we look forward to more of their dazzling storytelling.”

As they should. With Sunday’s premiere that averaged 14.4 million viewers becoming the most watched show since The Sopranos series finale in 2007, it crashed HBO GO, flooded Facebook and Twitter’s top trending analytics, and made Game of Thrones the most popular show in America and possibly the world today.

Cashing in on this success, HBO’s atypical move to renew two seasons, instead of the standard “let’s take it one season at a time approach,” shows the power of the Throne in not only being a fictional battle to take over the world. But one that’s transferred into a real life reflection of a show with an army of viewers that have proven to those in power to align themselves with the majority and trump all others with little to no authority. Let it be known.
