Actress Gabrielle Union and wife of NBA legend Dwyane Wade revealed that she cheated on her first husband, ex-NFL player Chris Howard. Union was a guest on the podcast “Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard.”

“In my first marriage, neither one of us felt like the marriage should get in the way of our dating,” Union said. “A part of it was like keeping up with his activities, like, ‘Oh, that’s what you’re doing? You’re going to feel this one.’ And I just felt entitled to it as well.”
Union said she “was paying all the bills. I was working my a** off and I felt like that’s what comes, the spoils of riches. Like my dad before me, whoever has the most gets to do whatever the hell they want, is what I thought. It was just dysfunctional from day one.”
Union and Howard were married from 2001 until their divorce in 2006.
“It was such a stupid relationship that should have never gotten out of the dating phase,” admitted Union. “We were gifted therapy and the first session, the therapist was like, ‘I don’t know how you guys made it out of the dating phase.’ And we should probably look for a way to amicably [divorce] because we have not one thing in common.”
Kudos to Union for being open and honest about how she perceived the marriage and owning up to her part in the dysfunction.
As a rule, what people do within the confines of their marriage, so long as they are not hurting each other or other people, is really nobody’s business. We have too much moral handwringing going on in society as people make assumptions and cast judgments on situations that they know nothing about.

That relationship with Howard was what it was for Union at the time. By her own admission, it should’ve never gotten past dating, but it did, and they have to live with the repercussions of that.
It seems like Union gained some insight from that failed marriage and used that insight to determine what she wanted in a future partner.
From the outside looking in, it seems that she has that with Wade. They got married in 2014. She is stepmother to his three children, and the two share daughter Kaavia.
They famously go on the “Wade World Tour” for their anniversaries with other couple friends.
In 2013, when Wade and Union were experiencing trouble in their dating relationship, Wade fathered a child with another woman.
“I had a child with someone else and I had to tell her. Hardest thing I’ve ever had to do is man up and tell Gabrielle Union that I’ve had a child with somebody else,” he says in the ESPN documentary ‘D. Wade: Life Unexpected.’ ET reports. “I couldn’t sleep. I wasn’t eating.”
Like Union, this is also Wade’s second marriage.
The future Hall of Famer married his high school girlfriend Siohvaughn Funches, whom he shares two biological children with, though he has full custody. Wade also raises his sister’s son.
