Driven: Mikey Garcia

Mikey Garcia is a product of generational boxing knowledge. His father, Eduardo, trained both he and his brother, Robert, making them into world champions before turning the reins over to Robert full-time. It is this backstory mixed with a perseverance that only a champion-level athlete possesses that defines the greatness of the youngest boxing Garcia.

This weekend, when Garcia laces up the gloves to face Sergey Lipinets for his 140lb title, he can potentially become a four-time world champion that has left a body count and an undefeated definitive body of work that is still growing. After an injury to Lipiniets that postponed the fight for a month, this Saturday Garcia has the opportunity to prove his case that he should be considered one of the best boxers of this generation.

We spent some time with Garcia and his team at his compound in California’s Inland Empire to find out what keeps him driven.
