DeMarcus Cousins is being looked at as the new leader of the Sacramento Kings, and he’s showing some maturity. He realized that he and his team were playing as if they were still in their AAU days, and he wanted to change that.
From Bleacher Report :
It felt like an AAU team. Everything [critics] were saying before, I believe it’s true. We were the worst. We weren’t building for the future, we were just living in the moment. That’s why we were that bad. … Honestly, I feel like I wasted time. I hate the fact that it took everything we went through to get to this. I guess you could say it makes it that much better.
This is a sign that Demarcus is starting to mature before our eyes. There’s no question that he has a long way to go, but he seems more focused as he gets older. Since Cousins was drafted, there have been times when we wondered whether or not he was going to stay in the league long enough because of his attitude. Given the the amount of talent he has, the way he’s maturing is a great thing, and this could lead to better days for the team.
Oh, and just in case he starts to lose focus, partial owner Shaquille O’Neal will be there to mentor him.
