Proving that Black actors should stick together, today it was announced that Dave Chappelle, fresh off of the heels of his record-setting return to TV on Saturday Night Live, had signed a deal with Netflix, joining fellow comedian Chris Rock on the network’s ever expanding roster of Black talent.
In the deal, Chappelle and long-time director, Stan Lathan, will produce one original special for Netflix. The other two projects will originate from the Chappelle comedy vault, where he performed at two venues, Austin City Limits and the Hollywood Palladium.
Dave Chappelle is a legendary voice in comedy searing, vital, and now more than ever, essential, said Lisa Nishimura, Netflixs VP of original documentary and comedy. Daves three new specials promise to be some of the most anticipated events in comedy.
The taped shows will debut next year. There is no date set for the original special as of yet.
