Danny Garcia Returns to Action November 12th

Danny Swift Garcia (32-0) announced yesterday that he’ll be facing Samuel Vargas next in a bout slated for November 12th at Temple Universitys Liacouras Center.

The event will be under the Premier Boxing Champions banner and will signal Swifts return after being on the sidelines for almost a year.  Garcia’s fight against Vargas is a tune-up before his highly anticipated welterweight world title unification showdown against undefeated champion Keith Thurman, rumored to be planned for March 2017.

Garcias last fight was against Robert The Ghost Guerrero, where he won the vacant WBC World welterweight title after unanimously defeating him in 12. Since then, the welterweight scene has been etched out further as Thurman won a controversial unanimous decision over Shawn Porter last June, making him the current lightning rod of welterweight animus.

Samuel Vargas (25-2) has compiled five wins since his April 2015, TKO loss to Errol Spence, Jr. Although he definitely has some skills, Garcia, the fighting pride of Philadelphia right now, is certainly the more experienced, talented athlete.

With the Thurman fight already on the books and Garcias current WBC title not on the line, the Vargas fight is strictly to keep the champ busy before the end of the year and feed his local fans a shot of action before heading into what could be the Fight of the Year next quarter.

With the addition of Garcia vs. Vargas, November is now a hotbed of boxing action, with Manny Pacquiao vs. Jesse Vargas slated for November 5th,  Andre Ward vs. Sergey Kovalev on November 19th and Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Nicholas Walters on November 26th.
