Coach K Abhors Tanking

Since the NBA introduced the lottery, tanking has been one of the most divisive topics in professional basketball. Hall of famer and Charlotte Bobcats owner Michael Jordan has already bashed teams for tanking, while he does it himself and now future hall of famer Coach K has done the same even though he’s never coached in the pros.

From Zags Blog :

As an American I wouldn’t like to think that an American team would [ever] want to lose or create situations where you would want to lose,” he said. “I can’t even fathom. I can’t go there. I can’t believe that that would happen. Maybe I’m naive and I’m going to go ready a fairytale after this.”

“Rigging for Wiggins”  “Scramble for Randle”? Enough of that, this tanking thing is starting to make no sense. In the past few years, NBA teams with the worst record have not won the NBA lottery. With the amount of talent in the 2014 draft class, a lot of lottery bound teams can walk away a winner. To lose a ton of games just because it raises your chances of winning the draft lottery is not a good idea. No matter how bad your team is the goal every night should be to win. Don’t be the GM who wants to go 15-67 and all of a sudden end up with the 5th lottery pick.
