The iconic Marley Family is music and culture royalty. Bob Marley was a revolutionary whose tunes and cool vibes touched the world and his incomparable musical catalog contineus to be as transcending and impactful today as it was decades ago.
Though world renown for the family’s musical legacy, which was continued continued by his offspring, most notably Ziggy and Damian Marley, the Marley’s also have a growing football legacy that was started by Bob’s son Rohan, who led the Miami Hurricanes with 95 tackles in 1993, while playing alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Warren Sapp and Ray Lewis.
Limited only by his small physical stature, Rohan later played professional football in the Canadian Football League with the now defunct Ottawa Rough Riders.
On Tuesday, the Washington Redskins signed Rohan’s son, former Tulane University linebacker Nico Marley, to a free agent contract.

Marley played four seasons at Tulane and finished the 2016 season with 86 total tackles, 13 tackles for loss and three sacks.
The 22-year-old Florida native is diminutive but packs a power punch, standing at 5-foot-8, same height as his dad. He was a two-time first-team All-American Athletic Conference pick over the last two seasons of his college career.
In a 2014 interview with Sports Illustrated’s Michael McKnight, Nico expressed his desire to move out of the incomparable shadows of the family name and carve his own pah.
“I always wanted to make something for myself,” he said. “I’ve never said, ‘I’m gonna do it like my dad did it,’ or ‘I want to be like my grandfather.’ Every individual is supposed to have something he wants to go get, something he wants so bad he don’t need anybody’s help. That’s what I get from my father and grandfather.”
