Beyonce Seeking Minority Ownership In Houston Rockets

Iconic recording artist, actress and world renowned superstar Beyonce wants a piece of the Houston Rockets. According to a report from Bloomberg News, the multi-platinum super diva wants to follow in the footsteps of her husband Jay Z, who once was a minority owner of his hometown Brooklyn Nets from 2004-2013.

Born in Houston, swimming in wealth and with the Rockets’ superstar combination of James Harden and CP3 set to challenge franchise scoring records, it’s a no-brainer for Beyonce to get her sports enterprise entrepreneurial feet wet with a burgeoning franchise in her hometown.

Current Rockets owner Leslie Alexander announced last month that he’s seeking to sell his controlling share in the team.

There’s still the potential for a conflict of interest as Jay Z was forced to sell his share of the Nets after he formed Roc Nation Sports.

Jay-Z’s involvement with Roc Nation Sports could cause some problems for Beyonce’s purchase as the agency represents multiple NBA players including Kevin Durant, Justise Winslow, Wilson Chandler, James Young and Rudy Gay.

That’s the red tape that needs to be worked out, but it would be a huge step for women in professional sports franchise ownership as she would join distinguished entrepreneurs like Valerie Daniels-Carter (Milwaukee Bucks) and Jada Pinckett Smith (Philadelphia 76ers) as women of color who are breaking barriers and getting in on the exclusive and coveted sports franchise ownership gravy train.
