Derrick Rose Offers To Pay For Slain Child’s Funeral

Chicago Bull or not, Derrick Rose really has love for his hometown. Last September, Rose shed tears over the rampant gang violence in Chicago. According to Uptown Magazine, Rose is prepared to pay for the funeral of six-month-old Jonlyah Watkins.

The infant was killed while having her diaper changed by her father Jonathan Watkins, the intended target.

The 29-year-old man was still hospitalized Wednesday morning after being shot in his left side, right buttock and sustaining a graze wound to the face. Both father and daughter were hit when an unidentified man walked up to Watkins’ minivan and opened fire.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports Watkins is cooperating with police from his hospital bed, but has no idea who shot him. An $11,000 reward is being offered in the case.

According to ABC 7 Chicago, the family’s spokesman Reverend Corey Brooks said injured Bulls star Derrick Rose has offered to pay for Jonylah’s funeral.

Rose is an introvert on and off the court, but he's also one of the most conscientious and socially aware athletes in the NBA today. Whether the rumors of Rose wanting to get out Chi-Town are true, false or somewhere in between, there's one fact that nobody can question about Rose: He's a ride-or-die Chicagoan.
