Jeremy Shu-How Lin was born on this day, August 23, 1998. Why is that a big deal, well, even though nobody would call him an all-time great, or even an all-star, Lin is a rarity in multiple regards. He’s playing in the NBA out of Harvard University and is the only Asian American in the league and the first since Wataru “Wat” Misaka played three games for the New York Knicks back in 1947.
One of the most unlikely NBA success stories in my lifetime, Jeremy Lin was injured most of last season but averaged 12 points per game in his best career stint with the Charlotte Hornets.
Jeremy Lin Is Not A Cultural Appropriator
You can infer a lot about a person by language and word usage. When I read Jeremy Lin’s article in Player’s Tribune, I knew the eventual backlash about the appropriation of black culture wasn’t far off.
However, what solidified him as an NBA player to be taken serious, dead ass seriously at that, was the birth of Linsanity back in February 2012. Here we reminisce on the time he breathed life into a franchise that was had nothing else to live for. With a losing season and Carmelo Anthony out with an injury, Linsanity burst into the lexicon of sports forever.
