Todd Gurley Shatters Lowered Performance Predictions

They say lightning never strikes twice in the same spot.  When RB Todd Gurley burst onto the NFL scene as an explosive, versatile force of nature for the St. Louis (now Los Angeles) Rams in 2015, the flash of athletic and elusive brilliance lit up the league to the tune of 1,106 yards, a Pro Bowl nod and being named Offensive Rookie of the Year by the Associated Press.

The following season, fans returned to the scene of the crime to watch what appeared to be a force of nature roll over his opponents once again. But that season saw Gurleys game lose a significant amount of spark, only recording 885 rushing yards, six TDs and 326 receiving yards while playing three more games than in the prior season. More carries, more games, yet fewer yards, is the very definition of a sophomore slump.

After being one of the top two running backs projected to be selected in fantasy football prior to the 2016 season, in 2017 that fantasy football projection placed him as the 10th best running back in the National Football League. It was a true indication of how far some in the NFL community felt he had fallen in terms of being an elite, productive back.  Gurley has proved his critics wrong.

Thus far this season, the atmospheric conditions appear conducive for another electrifying season from Todd Gurley.  The Rams running back torched the San Francisco 49ers to the tune of 113 yards and three touchdowns, making him the first player with six touchdowns in the first three games of the season since Calvin Megatron Johnson back in 2011 for the Detroit Lions.  The Los Angeles Rams are currently 2-1 this season.
