Monday, the very best MCs to ever rock the microphone will be on hand as the Hip Hop Hall of Fame Awards celebrates the culture and its dignitaries for Hip-Hop Appreciation Week at Stage 48 in Midtown Manhattan. Hosted by Roxanne Shante, one of rap’s original fem fatales, the Hip Hop Hall of Fame Awards Show will also feature DJ Mell Starr on the wheels of steel. The 2014 Inductee Class will feature Sugar Hill Gang, Charles Ahearn and the movie Wildstyle. Also included are a slew of classic artists from hip hop’s early 80s heyday including Mr. Magic, Busy Bee, Treacherous Three, Sequence, Cornbread, Mercedes Ladies, DJ Hollywood, The Twins, Stay High 149, Ralph McDaniel, and Ernie Paniccioli. Special guests come from the incomparable Rakim, DJ Barry Bee, DJ Kevski, Kool Moe Dee, Marley Marl, Grandmaster Caz, DJ Red Alert, Kool DJ AJ, Talib Kweli, Slick Rick and a legion of other hip-hop luminaries.
Founded by JT Thompson, the Hip Hop Hall of Fame’s mission is to bring recognition to the positive impact Hip Hop culture has on communities across the globe. The Hip Hop Hall of Fame aims to educate and inspire young people to get involved in all fields of the Hip Hop industry. There will also be a special memoriam held for the late DJ EZ Rock who recently passed away.
