Hey New Yorkers, time to renew those St. Johns basketball tickets. They're once again the hottest ticket in town. In his second game back after recovering from an ankle injury, Brook Lopez suffered another season-ending injury during Brooklyn's 120-121 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers in the form of a broken foot. It's the same foot Lopez fractured last season and had a screw placed in. Lopez's broken foot also puts a nail in the Nets hopes of salvaging this season.
The injury reportedly occurred during the second half, but Lopez continued playing through the game–just as Kobe Bryant did after fracturing his left lateral tibial plateau, scored 22 points and defended Evan Turner during his game-winning shot. The Nets have been ravaged by injury for much of the year and things finally appeared to be getting on track.
For the remainder of the season, Lopez's minutes will be eaten up by the unpredictable Andray Blatche and Mr. All-Business, All The Time Kevin Garnett, the ultimate odd couple if ya ask me. For the Pacers and Heat, this is just another foot of red carpet laid out on their road to the Eastern Conference Finals. At 9-17, the Nets aren't even in the top eight playoff seeds. On the other hand, last night the Pacers returned former leading scorer Danny Granger to the lineup for the first time in over a year. Indiana will rub it in against Brooklyn on Monday.
The rich just keep getting richer. The Nets just keep paying that luxury tax and Joe Johnson.
