Double amputee Olympian Oscar Pistorius will be indicted on premeditated murder charges on Monday for the Valentine's Day shooting of his girlfriend Reva Steenkamp. If convicted, Pistorius could face 25 years to life in prison.
Prosecutors in the case would not comment on whether Pistorius could face additional charges, according to the Associated Press. When the AP reached out to Pistorius' spokesperson, they declined to comment about the charges, but said they plan to see a copy of the indictment and related papers before Monday's court proceedings.
Pistorius has claimed he shot Steenkamp by mistake, believing there was an intruder in his bathroom in his South African villa.
In a sad and ironic twist, Monday's indictment will be handed down the same day Steenkamp would have celebrated her 30th birthday. Pistorius' trial is set to begin in early 2014.
