Former New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman recently retired from the NFL.
To say he overachieved in his career would be an understatement. Drafted out of Kent State as a return specialist and wide receiver, the shifty and gritty Edelman was a quarterback at Kent State.
Edelman won three Super Bowls with the Patriots but was a member of five teams that went to the Super Bowl. The one “Eddles” didn’t play in is probably his most memorable.
During the 2017-18 season Edelman tore his ACL, costing him his season. During an “Ask Me Anything” session with Reddit one redditor asked him why didn’t cornerback Malcolm Butler, the hero from the game a few years ago, play, even though he was fully healthy?
“Come on, you can spill the beans on why Malcolm Butler didn’t play in the Super Bowl?”
Edelman responded with an even better story about how he got kicked out of the Colts box at the Super Bowl.
“I don’t really know I was too busy getting kicked out of the Colts box with Guy Fieri that Super Bowl.”

Food Network Star Guy Fieri Took Edelman To Colts Box: Bad Move
Since he wasn’t with the team as he recovered, Edelman went to the Super Bowl in Minnesota with Food Network star Guy Fieri, who’s an avid sports fan. Fieri had tickets for the Colts box at the Super Bowl. As is well known, the Colts and Patriots are bitter rivals, so one could guess that wouldn’t end well. And it didn’t, as Edelman explained to the redditors.
“Guy had some tickets in the Colts box. Got settled, got my popcorn, got my Cracker Jacks, telling old war stories to the lovely folks in the box. Then I get a tap on the shoulder. Colts management found out I was there, and let’s just say Indy isn’t known for its hospitality.”

The tap was for Edelman to exit the luxury box. He couldn’t have thought the Colts brass would let him hang out in their box, could he? After the bitter wars in the playoffs between the two franchises he had to know it was not all love between them.
And how about “Deflategate,” which was still fresh in the memories of everyone, especially the Colts, who got dominated in that AFC championship and probably would’ve even won without the deflated footballs.
Edelman says he landed on his feet in a Patriots fan box.
“Thank god there was a Pats fan with a box next door. Can someone please find footage of that? It was pretty crazy.”

Edelman Overachieved, Won Super Bowl MVP
The following year Edelman returned to help the Patriots win their final Super Bowl of the Belichick/Tom Brady era.
In the Patriots’ win over the Rams, Edelman tallied 10 receptions for 141 yards and was selected Super Bowl MVP. He was targeted 12 times during the game and came up with clutch catches time and time again, as he had throughout his career. For his career Edelman totaled 620 receptions for 6,822 yards and 36 touchdowns. In four Super Sunday games he had 24 receptions for 337 yards and four touchdowns.
