First it was Henry Ruggs III killing a woman and her dog while driving at excessive speeds, intoxicated. The talented Raiders wide receiver, who starred for Nick Saban at Alabama effectively ended his career with one terrible decision.
On Thursday, Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy was arrested in Colorado on charges of second-degree criminal tampering with a domestic violence enhancer. Jeudy’s incident doesn’t rise to the level of seriousness that Ruggs’ does, but it’s another black eye on former Crimson Tide receivers, nonetheless.
The 23-year-old was booked into the Arapahoe County Jail on a no-bond hail.
Arapahoe County Sheriff Tyler Brown reported that a 911 call came from a woman accusing Jeudy of controlling her property. However, there was reportedly no physical altercation as the case “solely involved property.”

Domestic Violence Enhancer
Jeudy had a wallet, a child car seat, and paperwork involving the child that belonged to the woman in his possession. Jeudy had the items locked in a vehicle that the woman couldn’t access, Sherriff Brown revealed.
The domestic violence enhancer component of the case is because Jeudy has a child with the woman.
According to law enforcement, the woman has a 1-month-old child with Jeudy, and the baby was present during the altercation. The authorities described Jeudy and the woman as being in an “ongoing relationship.”

Wilson To Jeudy
Brown noted that there was no physical contact between Jeudy and the woman during the domestic dispute, and Jeudy was taken into custody without incident. Now a temporary order of protection has been placed against Jeudy, which goes into effect today, the same day he reports to court.
In Colorado, the crime of second-degree criminal tampering is when a person “tampers with property of another with intent to cause injury, inconvenience, or annoyance to that person or to another or if he knowingly makes an unauthorized connection with property of a utility,” under Title 18.
The incident comes on the heels of Jeudy potentially becoming the receiving weapon for newly hired Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson. On Wednesday, Jeudy told the media how much he anticipates working with Wilson.
Looking For A Season Turnaround
“He could help me a lot. He’s a great quarterback, a Hall of Fame [caliber] quarterback that came to the offense as a leader. [He’s] getting me better as well. He’s going to help me a lot this year,” Jeudy said to the media on Wednesday.
Jeudy had an ankle injury last season that kept him to only ten games. He had 38 catches for 467 yards but scored no touchdowns. Denver finished the season 7-10 and hired new head coach Nathaniel Hackett after letting go of former head coach Vic Fangio.
“Just the energy,” Jeudy continued. “Always uplifting guys and always motivating guys to go out there and keep working hard. On the off days when you don’t feel like working or doing anything, he’s the guy that comes up [to you] and gets your mind right for it. That’s a great guy to be around.”
In 2020, the Broncos drafted Jeudy as their first pick, 15th overall. The Deerfield Beach, Florida, native was a star at the University of Alabama putting up 159 receptions for 2,742 yards with 26 touchdowns while with the Crimson Tide in 2017-19. In 2018, he was also awarded the Fred Biletnikoff Award as the nation’s best wide receiver as a sophomore.
Alabama Wide Receivers
Jeudy is the latest Crimson Tide wide receiver to get caught up in off-the-field issues. Earlier this year, Joshua Rhamone Lanier, a former walk-on wide receiver for Alabama, was charged with sexual assault and first-degree sodomy.
Last month, Alabama wide receiver Agiye Hall was suspended for violation of team rules, according to legendary Alabama coach Nick Saban.
